Understanding What Makes Up Our Identities

Food has a way of shaping you, it feeds your soul as well as your stomach and it speaks volumes as to who you are. There are different types of palates and I will attempt to work through a few and what they might mean about you.

Adventurous Palates:

Having an adventurous palate means that you like to try food that isn’t found just anywhere. A delicacy in one country can be seen as a formidable dish elsewhere but you, my friend, are unperturbed. You see these foods as a challenge, wanting authentic experiences and seeking them out wherever you can. You tend to be bold and that reflects on your choice of food. You probably find it entertaining to see your friends and family squirm when they hear about some of the things you’ve eaten and faun at your bravery.

Diverse Palates:

If you have a diverse palate, you likely are one to try everything once. You are interested in the ways people utilize ingredients to create the balanced flavors of your favorite meals. you probably enjoy traveling and often experiment in the kitchen to recreate something you may have tried on your travels. You might ask questions in restaurants to see if your waiter/waitress has tried something that’s new to you, or watch cooking shows and YouTube videos.

Home-Bodied Palates:

Being home-bodied is nothing to be ashamed of; you know what you like, trying new things runs the risk of ruining a meal. You are someone who takes “baby steps” when it comes to food, easing yourself into new flavors and cuisines. You probably take the time to listen to outside opinions, but are never fooled the by the romanticizing descriptions of flavor. You prefer straight-forward reviews to better set your expectations and are not shy to decline something you don’t prefer to eat.

Honed Palates:

You are someone who values quality, from the ingredients to the plating, and you believe practice makes perfect. If you are looking to eat out, you probably do your research before you make a reservation. You have posted reviews on multiple forums to raise awareness about restaurant quality and you trust in a certain group of food critics. You aspire to eat at Michelin Star restaurants and share the ins and outs of the industry with those close to you.

There’s my list. I’m sure there are many more I didn’t cover, but it just goes to show that even the foods we eat show a lot about our personality. But just like every other aspect of your identity, it adds a unique perspective into who you are.
